Catching the tail of summer

- Rheena Marie L. Garcia -

CEBU, Philippines – I remember wanting to rest on a weekday, just watching my favorite movie with popcorn and ice cream beside me and getting all comfortable in my bed while looking at a view of piled-up DVDs. But I merely remembered wanting that, after a very long week! Cebu City was definitely super alive with all the events happening.

Take Tuesdays at VUDU for example. They used to be a laid back, chill out destination on a weekday, but they are now the videoke hub of Crossroads. They call it the VUDUOKE Tuesday. This is not like the other videoke bars that we are so familiar with; here, they have attractive hosts, Paul Kiener and Jay Chiongbian, who vibrantly leads guests to more singing. The place is surrounded by plasma TVs and projector screens so you can sing from where you are sitting (if you’re too shy to stand up) and even if you miss a note, you will still hear cheering and applause from the people inside the venue. It is very homey and fun. You should try it, too. Check out VUDU every Tuesday and see for yourself.

Now, imagine a place where everything is so clear and so white, sand on your feet, drumbeats and saxophone making a very good harmony, and cold drinks pourin’ on a hot afternoon. It’s everything you want in a beach party. But the Havaianas Urban Beach party at Formo took out the beach and poured in the who’s who of Cebu by bringing in the beach party atmosphere right here in the city. Everyone was wearing white! Even if it was so humid that night, the white color balanced it out. The sizzling drumbeaters from Tribo Manila, however, countered that cooling feeling because all of them were so good and so hot. And just before we left the party, Havaianas gave us a goody bag that had a huge Havaianas floater (which we used the following day at Pandanon and called the floater “havi”) and a slipper bag. Thank you, Havaianas!

Speaking of sizzling hot events, PLDT myDSL threw a very steamy party also at FORMO recently, promoting its hi-speed internet connection. They had fire dancers who performed that night and it just blew me away. I mean, I have seen a lot of fire dancing performances but they were definitely tops. Of course, a party won’t be a party without the music stylin’ of DJ Marlon of Wave and DJ Marie Garcia, who completed the whole blazing party experience.

Summer is almost out but the heat is still on with all of the events happening around the city. It’s ending in some parts of the country but here in Cebu City, it’s summer till we want it to be summer no more.

Sending a loud Whoop! Whoop! teric gica and coo all!
