Kultura Filipino in Intramuros

CEBU, Philippines - At the formal opening, the much-acclaimed Bayanihan, the Philippine National Dance Company, performed several traditional dances to the delight of local dignitaries and foreign guests.

Secretary Durano had this to say. “One of the main staples in a tourist’s itinerary is cultural performance. Kultura Filipino is our main venue which will showcase our diverse artistic traditions to local and international audiences to help solidify our cultural identity. It establishes Manila as a major cultural stop as it will be one of the highlights in city tour packages offered by tour operators”.

DOT Tourism Planning and Promotions Undersecretary Edu Jarque added, “As of now, the project primarily features songs and dances. We are also exploring the possibility of using it as a venue for exhibits in sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking and cinema, among others. Theater, plays and poetry readings which present our tradition may also be prospective activities included in the campaign in the future.

Sitti, with the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir, serenaded the audience with celebrated Filipino songs. The Queen of Bossanova crooned familiar local tunes with a Bossanova twist.

With the country’s different regions tapped to participate in Kultura Filipino, the audience can expect a colorful presentation from a whole spectrum of different traditions and performing arts. Holding these exemplary shows within the walls of Intramuros also adds an atmosphere of historic and old world charm.
