Oddly a dance drama

- Dax Barlaan -

There’s nothing entirely odd about a dance contest unless a dance drama sets in. Moreover, there’s an awkward oddity if this contest, set at The Stage at the Elizabeth Mall last month as an entertainment highlight, was joined by groups of performers with only one choreographer in question.

The event was like one big production number for the students of CBD College in Pardo, which actually looked liked the school’s culminating recital rather than a dance contest set at the mall.

Group themes like Santita’s love story, Ragita’s groceries, Love of God, Wish you were here and Argus sexbomb showcased anything but the impossible.

The result, a mere intra-school competition with a lot of room for constructive criticisms - an exposure which would have been better if certain improvements were painstakingly made before the show was hatched for the limelight.

But then again, it was Christmastime, where performers went along with the excitement of the season. And if these students did not join, nobody would have participated in the show. Now, that’s a merit for participation.

The Jingle Dance Drama contest was held last December 14 to 21 (elimination rounds) and December 28 (grand finals).

This writer would like to thank Ivy Cañete and Ivy Racal for the invitation.
