A New Year for Alexandra Burke

- Kristalle Garcia-Kekert -

The amazing performer that she is, Alexandra has had no professional vocal training, admitting to only having learned to sing from her mother (who used to perform with Soul II Soul). At the age of 12, Alexandra joined Star for a Night where she was the youngest in the competition but was beaten to the number one spot by Joss Stone. At school, she had been in a choir and won all the singing competitions she took part in. Alexandra also had the chance to sing to both Jean Carne and Stevie Wonder. Since then, she has been hooked on performing.

But Alexandra is no stranger to the X Factor. In 2005, at only 17 years old, she auditioned to take part in the show, but only made it through to the judges’ house stage. She thought her dream ended completely when judge Louie Walsh said that she was too young for the competition. Despite this, she still carried on singing at small events and writing her own songs. The rest is history.

Mentored by singer/dancer Cheryl Cole at the recent X Factor, Alexandra Burke’s dream did not stop there. Her second chance to stardom gave an even bigger push to her career. Alexandra sang the Christmas 2008 number one hit single of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and has made another dream of hers come true when her idol, Beyonce Knowles, teamed up with her to perform the track entitled Listen.

She’s won the X Factor battle and she’s now bound to make 2009 her year! She has only just begun! All the best, Alexandra! www.alexandra burkeofficial.com
