"Art After 40" marks Sining Kamalig rebirth in Gateway Mall

-

The upscale shopping, dining and entertainment experience at Gateway Mall just got better with the revival of the famous Sining Kamalig gallery at the 4th floor of the world-famous mall. Sining Kamalig is an art gallery that was founded and owned by sisters Vida Balboa and Corita Kalaw. Located along Taft Avenue and Pasay City, Sining Kamalig became the home of the country’s finest artists and showcased the best of Filipino contemporary art during the 70s and 80s.

The rebirth of Sining Kamalig was the brainchild of Simon Balboa, the nephew of Vida Balboa. To bring back the good old memories of the art gallery, he invited four award-winning Filipino artists and former Sining Kamalig exhibitors – Alfredo Liongoren, Gus Albor, Nestor Olarte Vinluan, and Lito Carating – to take part in an exhibit titled “Art after 40.” This exhibit tackles the interests of the artists – Alfredo Liongoren’s optimism for the country’s improvement, Gus Albor’s interest with temperature, Nestor Olarte Vinluan’s fascination with radiating forms, and Lito Carating’s interest with the concept of the universe.

The launch of Sining Kamalig reunited the renowned gallery’s former roster of featured artists and supporters, as well as attracted promising artists. The launch also elevated the status of Gateway Mall as one of the finest malls in the world, providing an ultimate experience like no other venue can. The exhibition will run until January 8, 2009.
