Downtown Holidazed

This holiday season, don’t let your crazy schedule flush your shopping wits in choosing wardrobes and essentials for parties that fill up your holiday calendar. While everyone is on their toes with regards to expenses, there are still alternatives around that would spare one from getting caught in the financial crisis. In other words, the shop-till-you-drop shopping maxim is still applicable at present. Hit Cebu’s downtown area and let your eyes pop with the price slash and great bargain deals!

Cebuanos are aware of the downtown treasures. That’s why many flock in this area to save up even more. However, a few shoppers are intimidated with the crowd in this area, hence, shopping in Colon and Carbon, considered as Cebu’s shopping meccas in the downtown, requires patience. As an aggressive purchaser armed with bargain skills, one will definitely get what he/she wants at a low price.

Chinese-owned stores that sell goods at low prices are abundant in Colon. Gifts for Kriss Kringle sell like pancakes — presents for him and for her, and kiddie toys, as well. These merchandise are priced per piece or for wholesale purchase. You save up to 30 percent though, if you buy in bulk.

When it comes to fashion, Colon and Carbon are teeming with rich supplies, from head to toe get up – from spunky accessories such as belts, caps and fashion accessories like hoops, dangling earrings and brooches to voguish wardrobe. Downtown merchants purchase their products from Thailand, China, Indonesia and other parts of Asia. The business establishments catering to apparels are equally updated (in style) like those located in the uptown part of the metro and their staff are knowledgeable with the trends and are quick to make suggestions on what looks good on you.

Another way to survive in the urban jungle are thrift stores or ukay-ukay. The  thrift store craze is such a huge hit that people from all walks of life converge in these shopping destinations and get their way through the ukay maze just to get hold of a vintage, rare find ensemble.

Kasadya sa Colon, downtown’s night market is also worth a visit. The downtown is indeed a treasure chest for aggressive shoppers who want to splurge on cheap yet chic garbs. Either for parties or for gift items, raid these downtown shops and I’m sure you’ll be surprised. Why spend P500 for a Bohemian dress when you can get it for only P250 in Carbon? Think about it. Be wise this Christmas!
