Christmas goodies

This Yuletide season, prepare to indulge in anything sweet and tasty. We are accustomed to having desserts or something to nibble on during Christmas Eve and these holiday delights are always present at the dining table. Oh, if you’re still confused on what gifts to give, why not spread the holiday cheer and bring home these Christmas goodies/pastries to your loved ones?

1. Fruitcake – Christmas dinner won’t be complete without the traditional fruitcake. This cake is made of fruits or dried fruits, nuts, raisins and spices, and is usually soaked in wine. Because of its popularity, the famous Pinoy rock band of the 90s, the Eraserheads, released a Christmas album entitled Fruitcake and even wrote a song with the same title.

2. Assorted mini-cakes – If you’re not sure of what cake he/she prefers, the safest way to go is to give him/her a box of assorted mini-cakes. Kids will go gaga over the choices of sweets. Yummy!

3. Chocolate-based cakes – No wonder chocolate is known as the food of the gods, it tastes like heaven! Chocolate-based cakes are often the dessert of choice during special occasions including Christmas. Better order in advance.

4. Brownies and Cookies – These goodies come in different sizes, however, these are best stored in a jar. These finger foods are perfect for coffee breaks, as well.

5. Silvanas – A layer of buttercream sandwiched between two crunchy meringue wafers, coated with cookie crumbs, Silvanas are best eaten when chilled. Silvanas come in different flavors – there’s chocolate, mango, pandan, Oreo, mocha, among many others to choose from.

6. Gingerbread house – Gingerbread is a cookie that can either be crisp or can be made softer. These cookies can be formed into a gingerbread house topped with icing and candies. A lot of hotels in metro Cebu offer edible gingerbread houses to add to the festivity of the season.
