The Piano Teachers Guild of Cebu will perform a Five-Piano Concert on Dec. 1, 6:30 in the evening at the Grand Majestic Convention Center.
The artists include Abescar G. Base Jr., Neca Abaya-Caingles, Noneluna Pajao-Deligero, Aida-Briones-Labra, Anita Cabahug-Trasmonte and Carmencita Leocadio-Ybud. They will perform to a repertoire of popular classics like the Overture by Franz von Suppe, Serenade by Franz Schubert, Bohemian Dance and Aragonaise by George Bizet.
The audience will also be treated to the masterpieces of Johann Strauss popularly known as the Danube Waltzes, Rimsky-Korsakov for his Danse De Bouffons, Peter Tschaikowsky for his Waltz of the Flowers and Antonin Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance.
The pieces have been arranged for five pianos by Filipina pianist N.J. Tan.
For close to 17 years since the Piano Teachers’ Guild of Cebu was organized in 1991, the guild’s teachers have been reliving and imbibing the message and appreciation of classical music in Cebu City and Mandaue City as well as in Iloilo, Maasin and Cagayan de Oro City. “We find joy in performing and pure enjoyment still for our performance to touch the heart and strike a chord in the listener’s innate being,” said Menchi Ybud in a talk with The FREEMAN on Tuesday.
Spearheaded and organized by the Philippine National Red Cross Cebu, the dinner-for-a-cause concert is a fund-raising project. Tickets at P700 per dinner plate are available at the Red Cross office. — Ruth Mercado
