A Vudu Halloween

- Melanie Ediza -

Hollow’s eve has always been a night feared by most because of the horrors scary tales have brought to our thoughts while growing up. There are stories of wandering ghosts, a hiding boogeyman in the closet or witches on brooms that cause more than a few goose bumps. But as time passes, the once innocent and naïve, unsuspecting mind changes and the fear has now transformed to excitement. More a treat than a trick, parties are planned weeks ahead to make sure this night becomes one that’s crazy enough for the books.

I once wrote about Club Vudu’s closing party almost a month back. A lot of us grieved and prayed relentlessly that it would only be a temporary loss (since in my opinion, many “aspiring” ones are trying just too hard to replace it) and we need not suffer anymore. Thank God, our prayers were heard! A newly renovated and revamped Vudu opened just to celebrate the Halloween weekend. The theme of the night was the 7 deadly sins. Everyone who was anyone, arrived in full make-up, costume and props trying to outdo each other in creativity and fashion sense. Vudu had prizes to reward those who came in the best thought-of characters. In true party-goers’ spirit, my friends and I did not want to be left out. We won best group costume for dressing as Deal or No Deal’s 26K Girls (it’s too showbiz, I know). We even had a “Kris Aquino” in the form of Binky Sybico. As a prize, we get to go island hopping aboard Island Banca Cruises just for being fabulously us in costume! To say the very least, Vudu did not disappoint in showing us exactly how to throw a swaggering, photo-capturing party that gave me a hangover-induced headache from all the fun I had that night. No one could keep their feet still with DJ Bombi Baldiquiera spinning at the booth. Whoever chose to stay home or went elsewhere against better judgment certainly have missed out on one heck of an event. It does help to be in the know of things. Don’t you agree?

This is why I love every last quarter of a year. It’s all about the parties and the holiday spirit, of course. Vudu will open in its full clubbing glory sooner than you can say, “happy new year!” And that is an entirely different reason to celebrate! Better stock-up on those fabulous outfits, girls. There’s definitely more to come.
