An art exhibit and a Cebuano food fest

INTO THE SCENE - Han Kintanar -

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa lined up different activities and in-house promotions, their way of saying “thank you” to their valued clients and the public, in general. To kick-off, a back-to-back launching of an art exhibit and a food fest took place two Tuesdays ago.

Featured artists are some notable Cebuano painters of the Cebu Artists Incorporated, namely: Gabby Abellana, Cesar Castillo, Pronnie de la Cerna, John Dinglasa, Luther Galicano, Benji Goyha, Celso Pepito, Fe Madrid-Pepito, Jose Mari Picornell, Ritchie Quijano, Lurline Rodriguez, Antonio Vidal, Jobril Villaver, Kimsoy Yap and Sonia Yrastorza. These talented individuals were commissioned to do their own interpretation of a Shangri-La experience by capturing different scenes within the resort’s vicinity. Their impressive “works of art” are up for sale to their highest bidder until October 25. The kind-hearted artists all agreed to donate 50 percent of their proceeds of the sale to a charity chosen by the resort. Amen to that!

To officially open the exhibit, a large painting done by the abovementioned artists was unveiled by guests of honor: art patroness Rosebud Sala; Aurora Patria Roa, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism; Queenie Amman, LapuLapu City Councilor and LapuLapu Tourism Commissioner and Raymond Bragg, ShangriLa Mactan’s General Manager.

Soon after the exhibit opening, the first Cebuano Food Festival at Tides restaurant was formally launched with the guests gathered at the Tides piazza to witness a cultural presentation by the Bantawang Kasama depicting the coastal history of Cebu and its marine life. Then, the guests of honor, Director Aurora Patria Roa, Councilor Queenie Amman with Mr. Bragg, were each given a wooden paddle to break the pot, signaling the opening of the food festival.

The Cebuano Food Festival highlights the different specialties of each town in Cebu.  Together with culinary consultant and doyenne of Cebuano cuisine, Jessica Avila, the resorts chefs: Executive Sous Chef Adolfo Lopez; Pastry Chef Edgardo Butawan and Chef de Cuisine Mar Martinez , all joined forces and whipped up Cebuano classics.

The art exhibit and the Cebuano Food Festival will go on until October 25. In addition to the resort’s 15th year anniversary celebration, a special room promo is also ongoing.

Congratulations, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa and more power!
