VIVA EX-CON 2008

- Reno T. Tallada -

The Visayan Islands Visual Artists (VIVA) formally launched the bi-annual VIVA EX-CON last August 30 at the Casa Gorordo Museum with the theme, “USWAG-LAMBIGIT.” Graced by the different Cebuano artists who share the same passion for art, it also highlighted artistic Cebuano performances of dance, music and the famous “balak.”

The VIVA EX-CON is a gathering of professional and amateur visual artists from all over the Visayas this coming November 27 to 29, to break the barricades of dissimilarity and focus on the significance of art and its role in the community. It is divided into two main events: the VIVA exhibitions and the VIVA conference proper.

The VIVA EX-CON conference is aimed towards an art which gradually moves forward to the new innovations of artistry and at the same time upholds the togetherness and collaboration of the different art disciplines deeply rooted in the Visayan art culture. The conference will be exposing the delegates into possible innovative techniques in art making without eradicating the touch of Cebuano artistry. The collaborative exhibition will demonstrate group artwork proposals having the oneness of Cebuano artistry, with the exhibition concept, “USWAG-LAMBIGIT BISAYA.”

The VIVA EX-CON, held in any of the Visayan Islands every two years, has been consistent in its main advocacy to create and establish a network of Visayan visual artists, involving different disciplines of art. This gathering does not only showcase a foray of the Visayan visual art; it also carries out formal learning programs on art and its repercussion. The organization is calling all aspiring artists and those who want to cultivate their hidden talent in art, to participate in this three day artful event.
