Vudu's encore

- Melanie Ediza -

When one wants to be a constant fixture in the party scene, there’s only one place that can validate your social existence, Club Vudu. It has to be said that this was where it all started in Cebu, when fun became a destination, and party was redefined into more than cocktail dresses and ball gowns of old-school soirees. Every weekend, young people of society (including dear old moi) strap their stilettos, shine their leather shoes, rouge their cheeks and style their hair, all dressing the part, making their way to certain glass doors in Crossroads, Banilad.

Starting out as a resto-bar and then transforming into a club, Vudu has always been the last if not the only stop for party-goers everywhere. There wasn’t any better place with house, hiphop & R&B beats to move to on the dance floor or, alternative and lounge music you can enjoy sitting down, listening with friends. So many wonderful and maybe even unforgettable memories were made in that two-story house of fun. And if only the walls could talk, they’d have plenty of stories to tell of its friends who frequently visit, making true my favorite adage, “Live like there’s no tomorrow and dance as if no one is watching.” We all certainly did! Vudu provided a temporary, weekend-long escape that we all needed. And so during its closing party last Sept 6, everyone who’s had the Vudu privilege and experience, came and paid their last (I’m hoping not) visit to our favorite club. Funny enough (as you may see in the photos), most of the guests arrived in black. Could this be a sign of mourning for a place which represented a youthful alter-ego of everyone’s lives? More yes than maybe, nobody just wanted to let go. We drank and we danced our hearts out to fabulously celebrate this last hurrah (with DJ Hans & Mael in the main room & Chrismyk in the VIP area.)

They say, “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.” And a whole lot of us won’t allow it to be over. As one chapter ends, another begins. So, definitely, no goodbyes! To Vudu, ‘til our next hello!
