As part of the United States of America’s Independence Day Celebration, the Embassy of the United States of America in the Philippines together with the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Inc. and SM City Cebu proudly present “Songs from The Heart” by the Trio Amical featuring Victoria Robertson, mezzo soprano; Lois Kim, piano; Marian Liebowitz, clarinet on Sunday, July 6, 7;00 pm at SM Theater 2.
Clarinetist Marian Liebowitz first met mezzo-soprano Victoria Robertson and pianist Lois Kim at San Diego State University in the Fall of 2007 when the two Artist Diploma candidates enrolled in Dr. Liebowitz’ Professional Orientation for Performers. This seminar in the Business of Music is a required class for Artist Diploma students, who are selected for their career accomplishments as young musicians and taught skills that assist with the demands of an international performing career. Since then, Ms. Robertson, a former Miss San Diego and frequent performer on USO tours, has taken first prize in the La Jolla Symphony Young Artist Competition, the Carlsbad to Karlovy Vary Vocalist Competition, and the National Association of Singers Competition. She is booked next season for solo appearances in diverse settings from New Mexico to the Czech Republic and has previously appeared as soloist with the San Diego Symphony.
Lois Kim, a frequent recitalist throughout the United States, received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan and the Masters and Bachelors from the Peabody Conservatory. She recently participated in the Jose Iterbi competition and will compete in the Russian Music Festival later this month. At SDSU she holds the Joseph Fisch and Joyce Axelrod Piano Residency and is an Instructor of Class Piano.
Marian Liebowitz is the 1997 winner of the U.S. State Department/Kennedy Center Artist Ambassador Competition, and represented the United States in Latin America that year by performing a month-long tour to seven countries. In subsequent years, Dr. Liebowitz has toured throughout Latin America under the auspices of various embassies performing concerts and offering classes in arts management, wind instruments, and chamber music. U.S. solo tours have included recitals in Utah, Oregon, Tennessee, Colorado, Arkansas, Missouri and throughout California accompanied by pianist Richard Thompson. Professor of Music for the School of Music and Dance at San Diego State University, Dr. Liebowitz was named to the campus “Top 25” list for 1999. She was also the recipient of the 2000 CSU Bautzer Faculty Award for excellence in fundraising. In 1991, Dr. Liebowitz created the SDSU Adams’ Project Performers Network, an innovative professional training program for soloists and small ensembles in music. Under these auspices, students have performed professionally throughout California since 1992 and internationally since 1998. Dr. Liebowitz holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, the Master of Arts from Smith College, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California.
The trio’s performance will also feature songs from The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady and The Music Man to name a few.
The performance of the Trio Amical is open free to the general public through the generous support and assistance of the following friends and sponsors: UBS, JC Gardens and Ms. Teresin Mendezona.
