“I want urban people to feel the pulse of these hardworking and warm souls who exist in an almost extinct, but genuine world generally unknown by the public,” Alfon says of his works which profoundly capture the mystical aura of southern tribes like the T’bolis, Bagobos, Higawnons, Badjaos, Matigsalogs, Mandayas and Maranaos.

Aside from his past 17 one-man shows, Alfon has also participated in as many group art exhibits in both
In “Mystical and Magical Mindanao,” Alfon takes liberties with the human form and exaggerates them because, in his own words, “I want to emphasize the great traits of these special Filipinos who have touched me in ways I can only describe through painting.”
Mystical and Magical Mindanao, Jun Alfon’s 21st one man show is ongoing at SM City Cebu Art Center until May 15.
