Gregory Aaron and Nicolas Pacaña, Artistic Directors of Balletcenter Cebu and Atlanta Festival Ballet, Georgia USA are in the midst of their second International Summer Series held at Balletcenter Cebu, Ayala Center. Dancers have congregated from across the Visayas and Mindanao joining their resident students for a six-week course.
The summer series will culminate in performances which will include an Enchanted Garden, a children’s story ballet featuring younger level students with choreography by the faculty of Balletcenter, Johanna Mangubat, Baby Cabaero, Julius Lagare and Linda Rivera; Tchaikovsky, a neo-classical piece choreographed by Nicolas Pacaña, as well as the Philippine premiere of Carmina Burana.
Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936. It is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana. The best known movement is "O' Fortuna." After having danced two versions of the ballet as Premier danseur of The Boston Ballet and Atlanta Ballet, Mr. Pacaña was inspired to create his own interpretation.
Additionally, Balletcenter will be offering Ballet and Hip Hop sessions (kids and adults) this May and introducing Tap for beginners, ages six to adult. The summer session is a wonderful way to have a fun-filled dance educated summer and everyone is invited to join.
Showdates for Balletcenter's Summer Spectacular are: May 9 , 6:30 PM and May 10, 3:30 PM. Venue: Theater for the Performing Arts (Ayala Cinema 1).
