Marco Polo: Site Of Santacruzan 2008

After three years of successively holding the Santacruzan at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu will be this year’s venue after a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Waterfront GM Marco Protacio and Marco Polo GM Hans Hauri.

The glittering event will be on May 10. Thirty-five reinas and zagalas led by Ms. Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung as Reina Emperatriz and Ms. Fiona King as Reina Elena will compose the reinas who will lead the traditional procession after the 4:00 PM Mass at the hotel lobby to be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Carmelo Horlador, MSP and will culminate at the Cebu Grand Ballroom. The Flores de Mayo, honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary, will see 20 little angels offering flowers. A Filipino dinner buffet culminates the colorful evening.

The past Reina Emperatrizes were: Amparito Lhuiller (2000), Ingrid Sala Santamaria (2001), Teresin Mendezona (2002), Gov. Gwen Garcia (2005), Elvira Luym (2006) and Margot Osmeña (2007).

This yearly event is a project of Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association (HRRAC), Clothes for Life and the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu in cooperation with Smart Communications, Inc.

Tickets at P800 per person, inclusive of dinner and raffle are available at the following outlets: Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu and participating designers of Clothes for Life Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Santacruzan of Quota International Cebu will take place today with a Mass at Seminario Mayor at 4:00 o’clock and then, a religious procession from Seminario Mayor to Grand Convention Center. At 6:00 PM, the coronation rites will take place.

Sue Gray is Reina Emperatriz, Pamela Abellana is Reina Elena, Camille Veloso is Reina de las Flores, Trisha Marie Corominas is Reina de los Angeles and Titan Undri Arrevalo is Emperador Constantino.

Cristina Corominas, chairman of Santacruzan 2008 disclosed during the press conference that they had a hard time getting zagalas for this year. But with the support of Quota President Malu Veloso and the officers and members of the club, the show must go on, no matter what! Congrats, that’s the spirit of Quotarians!
