Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia was conferred a Degree on Humanities honoris causa by the
In the evening after her conferment, Gov. Gwen hosted a cocktail reception at the Cebu Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. Clad in an ecru ballgown designed by her favorite couturier Cary Santiago, the governor was in her elements and in high spirits. Grinning with heartfelt open arms, Guv welcomed all her guests to her shindig, especially the mayors from the various towns and cities in the north and south, the likes of: Mayor Edsel Galeos of Argao, Mayor Deogenes Derama of Boljoon, Mayor Peter Calderon of Samboan, Mayor Carmen Lumain of Badian, Mayor Lakambini Reluya of San Fernando, Mayor Sally dela Fuente of Madridejos, Mayor Geralyn Cañares of Bantayan, Mayor Cynthia Moreno of Aloguinsan and Daday Celis of Sangguniang Panglunsod.
The pencil-slim lady guv’nor (“I eat a lot baya,” she would say!), sashaying beside her cocktail table with The FREEMAN’s Capitol beat reporter Garry Lao to the non-stop music by the Renaissance Band, was whisked off to the dance floor by dance-ace Dondi Joseph, and wow, she was the belle of the night! Doing the “Swing” gracefully, Dondi could only say... “She is great,” referring to Miss Energy Governor!
As the night moved on, Gov. Gwen’s daughter, lawyer Christine Garcia delivered a heart-stirring speech that touched the hearts of many. Ever supportive and loyal friend from Hongkong Mariquita S. Yeung came just to attend this auspicious occasion with her big brother Congressman Benhur Salimbangon who was seen hobnobbing with the media friends like TF’s Bobit Avila and others.
