The entire month was literally under the weather. I’m no meteorologist, but to my opinion the drastic shift in climate was the change of season. So, if you were a little under the weather yourself, I’m sure it took only a mild sting of the party bug and an ample dose of love spell to turn your mood from drowsy to electric! So, before the season of sun, sand and surf officially steps in, let’s recap some of the leap month’s “love affairs”:
Immediately after Kung Hei Fat Choi, the party fever spread like an epidemic through out the city. Not even the unwavering heavenly showers that dampened Valentine week posed as obstacle to love-fueled partygoers from prowling the nights for some romance and good old-fashioned partying.
As usual, Cebu’s premier hotspot, Vudu, raised the clubbing experience to another notch as it unveiled what I hope to be an annual shindig: the Singles Ball and Traffic Light Party that weekend. It was a red, orange and green soiree not just for the singles but for the taken as well, and those in-between. I guess your status on those events depended on whether or not cupid found you a match in Formo’s Speed Dating on Valentines day itself.
Apart from the all-nighters, a number of world class acts visited Cebu to cast their musical spell during the month of hearts. Most noteworthy was British singer/songwriter Julia Fordham whose largely popular Love Moves (in Mysterious Ways) song to Cebuanos was the official anthem for cupid’s day. Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano and old-time crooner Rex Smith also came for a one-night engagement.
Finally, what do you do when your birthday comes only every four years? Simple, make-up for the lost three years. And that’s exactly what Monica Blanco Ceballos did. On her 16th, it was a masquerade party! The birthday gal was all beaming with the obvious love and happiness surrounding her. Close friends and classmates whipped up some whimsical musical numbers and a comical skit portraying the birthday gal’s bighearted personality. Of course ever-supportive mom, Monina Blanco, and grandma, Inday Blanco, were there to shower the celebrator with all the love.
Enjoy your summer, everyone!
