Registration now open for Summer Workshops

-

Enrollment is now on going for Little Boy Productions and Sacred Heart School – Jesuit 2008 Summer Workshops, a great and worthwhile activity for kids and teens this summer, which will run from April 7 to 27, 2008 at the Old Campus of Sacred Heart School – Jesuit on Mango Avenue.

Little Boy Productions will be offering classes in musical theater, divided into kids (5 to 7 years old), pre-teens (8 to 12 years old), and teens (13 years old and up), and a creative writing class for teens and adults (13 years old and up.)

Now on its third year, the summer theater classes are open to those who would like to experience the fun and excitement of rehearsing and learn about what it takes to stage a show. The art of acting is taught through various theater games, designed specifically to help children build skills on how to perform, be more confident and responsible. Through games they will become used to getting on their feet and moving around, they will accept the discipline that is necessary for playing a game on the grounds of fairness, and they will start on simple improvised situation drama using simple format themes close to everyday life. These games are chosen to benefit children through improved coordination, agility, experience the importance of teamwork, self-reliance, improve fluency and develop meaningful and lifelong friendships.

Teachers for the theater classes will be a group of theater professionals from Manila headed by Michael Willams of Repertory Philippines who has been workshops for Little Boy Productions here in Cebu since 2006. He brings with him a wealth of international stage experience, having been in the original cast of “Miss Saigon” together with Lea Salonga and Monique Wilson, and in “The King and I” in London’s West End. Other teachers are Jill Pena, a graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Theater Arts from the Ateneo de Manila University and was in the cast of Disney’s “Cinderella” for Repertory Philippines, and Acey Aguilar, Philippine High School for the Arts-Makiling alumni and a regular performer with Tanghalang Pilipino, whose credits include “Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Ze Musical,” “Insiang,” and “Kudeta.”

The theater workshops will culminate in the staging of a musical showcase featuring all the participants at the Cenewof Theater in the Marcelo Fernan Press Center.

Also offered is a creative writing workshop to be led by award-winning writer and Sun Star Weekend columnist Lawrence Ypil which will introduce students and interested professionals to the art of creative writing in poetry, fiction, and the essay. Winner in the Poetry Category of the Palanca Awards and a literature teacher at the Ateneo de Manila, Lawrence Ypil has written poems and essays that have been published here and abroad.
