- Jen F. Vega -

Stylish, voguish, chic and simply attractive. In other words, you simply can’t resist to hop in to this new fashion destination ready to steal shopaholics’ hearts – designed to be a fashion junkie magnet, that is.

Established way back in the 1960s, Topshop has become a fashion authority and has been constantly on the cutting edge of trends. This iconic British brand’s phenomenal success in the fashion circuit has been resounding in more than 30 countries all over the world, thus Topshop is considered a staple with regards to wardrobe and accessories.

“Topshop is known as the leader in trends. We always try to be a step ahead of other competitors. We always want come up with something new, something fresh. Our edge is that our items are trendier. It appeals more to the young. Our prints are funnier and quirkier,” quipped Topshop brand manager Joan Elizabeth P. Talaue.

They have recently opened their 11th store nationwide located at the ground floor of Ayala Center Cebu’s expansion, under Robinsons Specialty Stores, Inc. Their Spring/Summer 2008 collection is on display featuring three strong trends: Jet Set, Iris and Boho Tech.

Jet Set – This 1930s cruise revival seems smart-high-waisted dresses with cut-about sailor stripes and neat tea dresses mixed with more fluid chiffons. Silk tie-neck blouses with waterfall frills and draw-string Ts are given cute rope prints, nautical inspired stars and anchor motifs. Boxy trousers, while playful bow-print Ts give a youthful twist. Dark, contrasting trims and vivid intarsia knits add weight and texture to the primary color palette. Headscarves are key, casually slung about the neck. Striped pumps and chunky round sunglasses finish this nautical look. (Available in Ayala Center Cebu)

Boho Tech – Eyecatching dip and tie-dyed with an ethnic feel are layered over colorful jersey sportswear. Waistcoats and shrunken jackets are worn over voluminous khaki, pink and deep purple tie-dyed kaftans. Beach jersey mini dresses in pale corals, sky blues and lemons mix have graphic, digital “Aztec” print accessories. Embellished Ts and tunics with deep arm-holes bring a hint of insouciance, when worn with khaki turn up shorts and faded grey denim. Finging, beading and leather strapping appears on sandals and belts.

Iris – This vintage inspired collection references delicate prints and dresses of the 1940s through to 1970s graphic prints. Varying scales of florescent florals are key and appear on dark background tea dresses with high waists and softly puffed sleeves.  Pretty blouses and ra-ra skirts with multi-layered frills and bow fastenings are toughened by black trims and black patent detailing. Monochrome, motif Ts are layered underneath belted, ditzy print bandeau dresses. Pistachios, aubergines and tangerines are lifted by sherbet colors. Paint box colored sunglasses, round toe tap-shoe and punched-leather wedges mix with natural leather satchels.

Topshop has surprisingly earned the trust of celebrity designers. This UK brand has special collections designed by notable icons like artist Stella Vine and supermodel Kate Moss. At present, Kate Moss’ designer clothes are on display in their first provincial branch in Cebu. Kate Moss is a collection that they started last year which is only available in Mall of Asia, Glorietta Mall, Robinsons Galeria and in Ayala-Cebu.
