A romantic setting for the renewal of marriage vows of Ruben and Cora Shan after living and loving each other in the last 25 years was the White Sands Resort in Lapu-lapu, Mactan Island last December 19. The ceremony was unique, far different from the usual marching down the church aisle bedecked with flowers. Theirs was the white sand rolled on with white carpet and their cute chapel had swaths of nylon cloth hanging over. Fr. Soc Saldua did the rites assisted by Fr. Tingting Ancajas.
Ruben and Cora chose this place as the venue for their silver wedding anniversary celebration because their wish to have a Caribbean theme had to be fulfilled. So, all their sponsors and guests came in Caribbean attires.
Being the principals, Ruben opted to wear an all-white outfit accented with a brown belt, while Cora wore an off-the-shoulder white top and uneven-cut shirt in ecru. Peewee Senining designed her anniversary dress as well as the costume of their two girls—Hannah and Gale. Only son Job wore a white shirt, not to mention the beautiful necklaces the girls adorned their necks with.
The principal sponsors were: Hon. Julian Daan and wife Yoly; Caesar and Evelyn Dakay; Tomas Shan,Jr. and Violeta O. Shan; Go Yulin and Cayetana Buzon; Ardeen Ching and Editha Abesamis; Gerry Ynting and Leticia Cupin; Jacinto Tan and Virginia Costales; Fermin and Flor Ynclino; Ismael Carolino and Belen Edillon; Romeo Ang and Estrellita Raya; Rogin Albano and Ma. Liza Link; Eric Doronio and Suzanette Castro.
The secondary sponsors were: Joseph Benett Shan-bestman; Maids of honor - Johannah Rachel Shan and Gale Frances Shan; Bridesmaids - Leticia Shan, Lotis Solero, Gemma Shan, Mary Jane Shan and Mahly Cabugao. Dennis and Glenna Parrillacandle; Henry Francisco and Lita Cabugao-Veil; Paul Lim and Elena Lim - cord. The Jesu Christi Community Men’s/Music Ministry provided the hymns and songs during the ceremony. After the brief renewal of vows, a big reception followed at the very spacious beach front of White Sands Resort. Although there was a little rain that threatened the affair, still merriment ensued till midnight.
From Ruben and Cora, they said: “Thank God for the Gift that is too wonderful for Words!”
