Cebu, Pride of Place launched

A coffee-table book, “ Cebu, Pride of Place” had a soft launch last Friday, December 7, at the cozy but posh Aziza of Tinderbox along Banilad Row.

The book, measuring about 12”x12” is so large and heavy that it took the people behind the making of this project seven months to complete. During the launch, frontliners receiving guests were: Marissa N. Fernan, project chairperson with co-chair Elvira Luym, Teresin Mendezona and Petite Garcia, president of Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Inc. Very much discernible were Editor Thelma Sioson San Juan, Alya B. Honasan, art director Norrin C. Hernandez and master photographer E. Billy Mondoñedo.

Cebu, Pride of Place is a celebration of the beauty and bounty of one of the Philippines’ richly endowed islands. It is a collaboration among Cebu’s premiere art and culture organization, the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Inc. and the 2005 Camera Club of the Philippines, headed by Billy Mondoñedo. The book brings the reader on a visual and inspirational journey through the length and breadth of the Cebu main island and its outlying islands.

From its simplest setting that is the mountain forest floor to the modern steel and stone edifices in the city, from the pristine beaches of coastal towns to the world-class resorts in outlying islands; from the ordinary celebration to the spectacular festivals, Cebu, Pride of Place is a treasure trove of new discoveries and revisited experiences.

Enjoy the images of its people of the boundaries of nature and historical locations with their own stories to tell. Delight in the artistry, design and significance of image that evokes the sense of pride in the Cebuanos. Take pleasure in leafing through the collection of images that will take you on a journey of the best Cebu has to offer.

And finally, do enjoy looking at the well-heeled guests who came to the soft launching of the book—Cebu, Pride of Place.
