Spoiling Satisfaction

- Melanie L. Ediza -

It’s that time of the year once again, when events and parties start filling up your calendar and you fail to realize that time has flown too quickly. Before you know it, you’re stressed, burnt out and worse, you even look the part! With that scary premonition in mind, I decided to gear up for the season and recharge before I run out of energy.

Searching for a place that could cater to all my pampering needs wasn’t hard. Two words perfectly described what I just needed for the weekend.. Mogambo Springs.  Within an hour, I checked in at Plantation Bay ready to receive a good, well-deserved, healthy dose of revitalizing spa treatments and alone-time with me, myself and I.  After promptly changing to my sun-deprived green maillot, put on my dark sunnies, I stepped out into the lagoon and lavished in the beautiful scenery.  It more than validated my choice of this lovely resort for my pre-holiday weekend getaway.  In Plantation Bay, everything is at the tip of your fingertips.  It puts the rest in rest and relax in relaxation! The lagoon’s water is just a few, tempting steps away as you enter this captivating paradise from your own balcony.  And you have a wide menu of activities to make your entire stay absolutely worth your while.

Scheduled for a Japanese shiatsu & Swedish relaxing full-body massage combination, I arrived minutes early of my appointment to be sure I won’t miss it.  Of course, being me, I chose to arrive in style – I rode in a horse-driven carriage from my lodge to the spa (more famously known locally as a “kalesa”) and was awed by the view that greeted me.  It felt like leaving our present time and stepping into a little Japanese oasis of a village tucked in this tropical resort’s inconspicuous corner.  I was still trying to come up with the right complimentary adjectives, when the staff graciously and patiently brought me back to my senses, to ask if I was ready for my massage.  Without batting an eyelash, a clear “yes” came out.  Mogambo Springs has been recently renovated and has facilities that boast of new rejuvenating experiences for their guests and clientele.  They now have four suite rooms, where couples can stay while enjoying the spa; bamboo & Zen-inspired massage & indulgence rooms; and your choice of hot, saltwater/thalassic spring, cascading pool and a hot whirlpool in a private villa.  Being a licensed nurse, I was not even worried because Mogambo Springs only has DOT-certified therapists, who made sure that I was well taken care of.  They also have a variety of choices for guests to pick from—their signature massage called Skinful Pleasures, which I heard was heavenly; Shiatsu and Swedish (which was my choice); Dorn, their method of spinal alignment, and so many others.  For those who love skin pampering, they also offer face and body treatments, designed for different skin types, that will surely leave you addicted for more!  My massage was so relaxing that I probably dozed off in the middle of my treatment.  I came out of my little Japanese villa, smiling and fully re-energized for the weeks ahead.  What can I say? I was satisfied and had run out of words to describe this perfectly, intoxicating experience.  I will be looking forward to more of these selfish me-moments, to help reboot my system and re-balance my yin and yang for a more blissfully productive life.

After this brief yet peacefully lightening retreat, I can’t wait to start the holiday season right, full of energy and excitement.  And if those seasonal de-spiriting mindsets come bothering me again, I can always have my bittersweet escape to Mogambo Springs at Plantation Bay, where life can be surreal, even just for a weekend.  As my friends & I would sing, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…”
