The Festival of Lights in homage to Sta. Catalina de Alexandria’s (St. Catherine of Alexandria), beloved patron saint of Carcar, life of martyrdom will take place during the traditional evening fiesta procession on November 24, 2007 from 3 p.m. to 8p.m. The first time four elaborately decorated tableaus, using life-size religious statues on carriages, will depict the Emperor’s marriage proposal to Catherine, the Broken Wheel, Catherine’s beheading and the transporting of her body by angels to Mount Sinai. The refitted statues and carriages belong to Carcar family members of the Carro and Icon Caretaker’s Organization of the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Catherine of Alexandria. There are 120 dancers from Carcar’s Saint Catherine’s College who will wear colorful fiesta costumes, specially designed lantern headgear and carry hand lights to illuminate the procession route.
The Carcar Heritage Conservation Society (CHCS), a local non-government organization, the Carro and Icon Caretaker’s Organization of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Catherine’s College and Saint Catherine’s Alumni Association are working together to produce this year’s Kabkaban Festival of Lights.
My good friend Jerry Martin Alfafara is the public relations officer of Carcar Heritage Conservation Society.
