The Concert for Diana
It was such an incredible night where everyone in the
Showing their commitment, the princes followed their mother’s footsteps by hosting a special event prior to the concert by inviting hundreds of youngsters for lunch at the concert venue. These were all young people in connection with the charities that Princess Diana had shown support to and it is just so wonderful to see how William and Harry still want to carry on their mother’s good work. It surely made everyone happy.
The Wembley Arena rocked that evening as everyone present celebrated the life of Princess Diana. The performers included a medley of songs from the musicals of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Duran Duran, Elton John (who vowed never to play his tribune to Diana “Candle in The Wind” after performing it at her funeral 10 years ago), English National Ballet (who danced “Swan Lake”, the last ballet that Diana had seen months before she died), Joss Stone, Lily Allen, Kane West, Nelly Furtado, Natasha Bedingfield, P. Diddy (who sang “I’ll Be Missing You” – the most requested song on the radio the day after the Princess died), Rod Stewart, Take That (who sang “Back For Good”), Tom Jones, Will Young and many, many more! The 6-hour concert was really full of special moments – moments that covered the life of an extraordinary woman.
Many people had supported this show because the tickets were reasonably priced, with proceeds going to Diana’s Memorial Fund and other major charities. This certainly gave everyone the chance to witness this once in a lifetime event. Thanks to both princes, William and Harry, who made sure that everyone got the chance to celebrate their mother’s memory.
The concert also included a video footage of the Princess, as well as live and recorded messages from many major international figures such as David Beckham, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton – to name a few. It was made very clear that Diana was a truly incredible person who had made such a huge impact on everybody’s lives.
What an evening! William and Harry publicly ended the night with a thankful message on what was called “the most perfect way of remembering our mother because this is how she would have wanted to be remembered”. The crowd was very much entertained by celebrating her remarkable life.
