Of Fashion and Friendships
May 11, 2007 | 12:00am
An assembly of true friends, it was surely a memorable evening for those who witnessed the first anniversary celebration of Roger Salazar''s foray into the fashion world.
The intimacy and simplicity of the celebration was reflected by Roger''s latest collection unveiled that evening of May 2. Lady friends from Toastmasters International donned the masterfully crafted casual and evening dresses, led by no less than Miss Cebu 2007 Loise Angelique Tan and Miss Cebu 2006 finalist Josenne Angbetic, Roger''s co-members in Queen City Toastmasters Club.
But where were the skinny models?
"I wanted to highlight the flexibility of my creations…that the dresses and gowns I design can also be worn by a regular girl any day," Roger enthused.
It was not the first time that Loise modeled Roger''s masterpieces since winning Miss Cebu. It was Roger who provided the alluring gowns Loise wore in the post-pageant pictorial for The Freeman Entertainment at the Marriott Hotel in February. His now-familiar red gown has also been recognized as the best in the Miss Waterfront in December 2006, beating that of notable fashion designer Renee Salud. Highlighted by the simple fashion show, the celebration at Fisherman''s Net unfolded with a humble flair of good food, good music and good friends. Notable make-up artist Wenwen Zaspa made sure not to miss the celebration yet Roger could only wish that his mentor, designer Wendell Quisido, was also present to share his success.
When narrating his humble beginnings, Roger never fails to express his gratitude to Quisido for his exposure and training.
And while it seemed only yesterday that Roger, an architect by profession, decided to sketch dresses instead of buildings, that night confirmed it was a decision that was meant to be for the year that passed was surely a great success for the fast-rising designer.
