January next year beckons everyone to converge in our island paradise of Cebu and witness the spectacular Miss Cebu 2007 pageant.
Started in 1984 by a handful of Cebuanos with a foresight, it became not only a wondrous event Cebuanos (and a little birdie told me that Manila is taking an interest also what with the Cebuana conquering the capital)look forward to, but also an effective tool in establishing good relations with neighboring cities and countries.
Thus, Miss Cebu pageant survived typhoons, changes in administration and economic turmoil. It became a permanent crowd drawer during the Sinulog Fiesta week.
Although the candidates and eventually, the crowned queens were those who stood out in social functions, in academic circles and malls, they were an exclusive batch year after year for not just any Cebuana entered the candidates' circle. Now on its 22nd year, the quality of the ladies has been consistent. Brains come first and beauty comes closely behind for the Cebuana is known for both.
Miss Cebu has produced international and national beauty titlists like Karla Bautista and Melanie Ediza. The former won Miss Cebu in 2003 then became Binibining Pilipinas World 2004. In the same year, she became Miss World 2004 Queen of Asia and Oceania and placed among the top 5 in the Miss World pageant held in Senya, China. The latter is Miss Cebu 2002 and eventually became Binibining Pilipinas 2nd Runner Up in 2005. It is interesting to note that both women, along with reigning Miss Cebu 2006 Stephanie Rose Señires, belong to Cebu's premier modeling agency M.A.C.>Models Association of Cebu.
This year, Miss Cebu 2007 organized a series of intensive trainings, seminars and workshops for this year's 12 pretty candidates. It is in preparation for any of them to fill in the shoes as Cebu's Ambassador of Goodwill. Other lectures on vital topics were conducted by the Department of Tourism, Cebu Chamber of Commerce, Inc., and Toastmasters Club International to hone the candidates' communication skills.
Miss Cebu 2007 official and exclusive candidates displayed valuable characteristics and this year produced quite an impressive batch. Here in this spread are the 12 candidates. Kudos to the Cebu City Tourism Commission and organizers! Bravissimo!
