Why I always wanted to be a journalist?
October 16, 2006 | 12:00am
I felt that it has always been my duty to write. We each have our own thoughts and opinions and want to share it with others. This, especially, is the most important aspect in being a journalist because through my experience, it helped me broaden my outlook towards life. It helps me to become a better journalist.
I have always wanted to write because I am particularly interested in people most especially if they come from different walks of life and have different stories to tell.
I also love travelling because it has helped me broaden my perspectives and made me less ignorant. I really do believe that if you want to be a journalist, it is important to travel, see different things and meet different people of different cultures because it improves your sense of direction most especially in writing. It is mainly because we all come from diverse backgrounds and have different beliefs. I would say this because it is such a realization to witness how everyone's paths in life differ. Apart from travelling, I also think that it is highly important to read to improve one's understanding and to do research.
I understand that being a journalist is not an easy job to tackle, but I have always been ready for a challenge. Many would agree with your opinionated work and others would not. But this is how I would see the balance. Put it this way, if people would all take the same side, there would be no news or if there would be news, no one would be interested.
A journalist's world is like entering into a whole new position of debating, reporting and understanding equality. I am aware of all these challenges and am excited for what will come. I am positive that I can contribute to society and truly make a difference.
