USC-GHS Elementary Class of 1981 silver jubilee: Reliving memories... renewing ties

- Nimrod NL Quiñones -
After 25 years since we graduated from Grade-6 at the school, which was then called the University of San Carlos-Girls High School Elementary Department (yes, there were boys in the elementary level), we came home last July 15 to celebrate our silver jubilee.

Of course, there was no place better to hold it than at our own alma mater, which is now known as the USC-Basic Education Department South Campus. The boys who graduate from the school are now luckier since they do not have to explain that the school is actually co-educational.

When we decided to come home, we also wanted to make sure that we did more than just get-together and relive our good old days - we remembered to share our blessings and the knowledge that we had gained.

On July 13, a group of 16 headed south to Manatad Elementary School in the hinterlands of Sibonga town to distribute school materials and food to the children of the school in cooperation with THE FREEMAN Foundation. Our class also donated some amount to the foundation's project to build desks and benches for the kids of that school.

On July 14, we headed to the USC-BED South Campus and shared our knowledge with the students of the school.

Dr. Fredrick Boholst of the USC Psychology Department talked to high school students about transactional analysis. Mary Melody Yadao-Remorca, a champion storyteller now based in Manila, held a storytelling session with the pre-school children.

I also did some part by handling a journalism seminar for the campus writers.

On the third day, July 15, we had the grand reunion that started with a Mass celebrated by our classmate Fr. Randolph 'Randy' Figuracion, S.D.B. at the USC chapel.

I'll let the pictures tell you the story so you can see how much fun we had reliving memories and renewing ties.
