July 29, 2006 | 12:00am
Beauty and compassion pretty much capture this year's stunning line-up of young hopefuls vying for Southwestern University's Mr. and Ms. Nursing.
An annual tradition for the University's College of Nursing, the pageant boasts of 16 equally good-looking and bright coeds representing different levels of the college. With this year's theme "Gearing towards global competitiveness through excellent nursing care and being an ambassador of goodwill", these young students carry the torch not just as future nurses of country but also as model citizens who will embody the total Filipino essence of genuine care and world class nursing caliber.
Let us meet the candidates up close and personal:
KRIZL ANN D. OPISMA. For a young gal who loves to read fairy tales, she lives life realistically! She believes that everything in this world is for a greater purpose. This Capricorn is a badminton addict.
LILET S. MAGASPI. Don't let this sweet face fool you. She knows a thing or two about self-defense. She is a yaw-yan practitioner and enjoys soccer kickball. But, don't worry, boys, you can always sweep her off her feet with serenades of her favorite love songs.
KRIZIA FAITH CUYOS. "Study first before entering the messy world of falling in love," she firmly quips. Sounds unbelievable coming from an 18-year old. But let me tell you, this sophomore is determined to pass every licensure exam that comes her way. Focused.
ABIGAIL ORTIZ. Guess music comes naturally to this Pisces for she plays the piano. Her forte? Love ballads and gospel music. An optimist, she believes to never give up in any endeavor one is passionate about.
JILL IVY MARIE R. LOQUIAS. She believes that time is precious. Thus she makes the most of her day. Apart from a hectic college schedule, she plays soccer and pens short stories on her spare time.
ROSEMARIE V. ABAPO. This 16-year old certainly doesn't think like girls her age. She accepts criticisms positively and takes it as an opportunity to improve one's self. Not new to pageants, she believes that LOVE can make anybody beautiful.
MA. FRANCIS MAE J. MORALES. An Aquarian, Francis believes that love should always be unconditional. Thus, she hopes to find a man willing to accept her exactly just as she is. On her free time, she listens to classical music if not sit on the couch glued to the tube!
PEARL GRACE D. VILLAFLORES. A nature-lover, she finds serenity in every sunrise and sunset. The beach is her playground and she is always on the look out for new places to discover. She plays the guitar, too!

JOHN RICHIE N. DELOS SANTOS. Though only 17, he certainly knows what he wants! With Biology and Physics as his faves, he definitely has the brains fit to become a nurse. Hey, Medicine might come into consideration along the way.
ROMMELITO DAJAB. This dashing Virgo loves to travel. "Visiting other new places is always a learning experience," he says. Though not really discovered during first impression, Rommel actually has an artistic hand, finding time to draw and sketch in various mediums.
JONES CARLOS P. PO. A self confessed punk, don't let his personal style fool you. Behind that pretty face is a mind that can solve even the most challenging mathematical problem. So keep those numbers coming!
MARCO J. DACILLO. Don't let that rugged good looks fool you. He is a wide reader who lists John Steinbeck's East of Eden and David Guterson's Snow Falling on the Cedars as his favorites. Witty and suave, he can undoubtedly swoon every girl that he admires for he "Loves to Love!"
PATRICK A. WONG. Towering at 6feet, 3inches, it's no wonder he loves to play ball. But don't be surprised to find him on the dance floor doing the groove, for this future basketball star loves to dance, too!
