All about Kyra

- Jad A. Conde -
Meet Plantation Bay's new public relations officer, Kyra Cabaero, who averred that she has finally found her niche. Born in Cebu City on July 16, 1977, Kyra is a Theresian who started kindergarten in St. Benedict's. When she was around 11 years old, her family moved to Manila because her dad was already working there.

"Our family lived in Manila for 8 years. That's where I spent the rest of my grade school and high school education at different schools. I went from St. Theresa's College, Q.C., to Our Lady of Grace Montessori (now Our Lord's Grace Montessori since the owners became born again Christians), to Miriam College, Q.C. (formerly Maryknoll). We decided to come back to Cebu after I graduated from high school," she reminisced.

Though Kyra has been in the hotel barely a month, she already feels that she is doing what she has been meant to do. Kyra admitted that she has always wanted to work in a hotel so that she had no second thoughts in applying when she knew that the resort was looking for a new PR officer.

"As PR Officer, it is my job to promote the resort in the local and international community. I do this through advertising, press releases and, of course, public relations. Being a PRO is essentially the same as being in Marketing as it involves more or less the same responsibilities," Kyra enthused.

28-year-old Kyra shared her routine in going to and from the resort. "I live in Cebu City so that going to Plantation will mean that I take the ferry. Then a taxi. But I take the company shuttle in going home." Guess, she is absolutely enjoying her daily schedule, which she claims she looks forward to.

Kyra initially wanted to take up Marine Biology at USC, but when she got accepted in UP Cebu College, she ended up enrolling in BS Biology. It took her 2 years to realize that she was not meant to be a doctor. So, she shifted to Psychology, which she enjoyed tremendously.

Kyra got a summer job as a Marketing Assistant for Only Son Business Links after she graduated in March 2000. Though it was her first taste of marketing, she liked the job.

"After that, I did some short stints at Ethnic Ventures and Neoground.com where I was able to gain some event organization experience. Then, I got a job in Robinsons Place Cebu as a Marketing Officer. I stayed there for around 5 months as a contractual employee. My next job was as an Account Executive at Advertising Services and Promotions (ASAP Cebu), where I gained additional skills and hands-on experience. Then, as a Product Development Manager in Creative Nations Inc. Prior to my current Plantation Bay position, I worked as Marketing Manager in Maria Luisa Properties," she enumerated.

With all her job experiences, one can only say that indeed Kyra is on the right track, away from the course she took up in college. She has all the makings of an ideal public relations officer - good chemistry with the rest of the staff, comfortable with the hotel's culture, while maintaining a healthy sense of independence. She said that the hotel calms and soothes her mind.

"Working in Plantation Bay is a challenge for me as this is an industry I do not have any prior experience in. Some procedures and responsibilities are new to me and so I must adjust accordingly. The challenge is that I have to adjust right away as the job will not wait for me to adjust before deadlines start coming in. I have to learn the ropes, while at the same time performing the job. But I do not mind the challenge because it keeps me on my toes. My brain has been a bit rusty for some time and I relish the action my synapses are now getting. And they are getting a lot, especially since our 10th year anniversary is fast approaching," Kyra said.

Plantation Bay will celebrate its 10th year anniversary on July 17, 2006. A Caribbean Beach party is being planned while their Summer Frolix promo is still ongoing.
