The King and I is about Anna Leonowens, an Englishwoman who goes to Siam to teach English to the King's sixty-seven children. During her stay there, she gains insights into the culture of the land, challenges its inner workings and captures the heart of the people and possibly the King's, too. Adapted from the novel Anna and the King by Margaret Landon, Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I is one of the longest running Broadway plays, winning awards like the "Tony" Award for Best Musical in 1951-52.
The musical is presented as part of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the school. Fr. Ernesto Javier, S. J. - School Director also hopes to restore this time-honored Jesuit tradition of theatre in school. Proceeds of the play will go to the construction of a theatre in the new school campus.
