Urinalysis unlocks the secrets of secretion

- Ruth G. Mercado -
What unlocks the many secrets of the human body is in what it secretes - urine.

Urinalysis or simply analysis of urine reveals evidence of disease that is unnoticed or where no striking symptoms are seen. Though it forms part of routine health screening, urinalysis holds much of the information of what can be wrong with the body.

Urine holds many secrets. It is from abnormalities in urine that diseases like diabetes, kidney disorders and chronic infections in the urinary tract are detected in its early stages.

Because urine is something that the human body secretes or flushes away, having regular urinalysis is anything but important to most people. Urine analysis costs about P40 in most laboratories. But while it is cheaper than a burger value meal, many take urinalysis for granted even as it could mean the difference between being sick and very sick. No waste at all.

In the human body, urine is produced in the kidneys where wastes and metabolic byproducts of blood are filtered. It is also in kidneys where body water is regulated, proteins are conserved and electrolytes and other compounds are processed for the body to reuse. Anything that is not needed is excreted in the urine that travels from the kidneys to the bladder through the urethra and out of the body.

Strangely this seeming body garbage may be no waste at all. Urine flags the first signs of trouble. When results show high concentrations of glucose, protein, bilirubin, red blood cells, white blood cells, crystals and bacteria in the urine, something has gone haywire in the body. These elements are not suppose to be in elevated levels of concentration but when levels of this increase in the blood that means either the blood is trying to decrease concentration by dumping it in the urine, kidneys have malfunctioned, or kidneys are infected.

In unlocking the secrets of secretion, a complete urinalysis consists of three distinct testing phases. Physical examination evaluates the urine's color, clarity and concentration. Chemical examination tests chemically for substances like pH or acidity, protein, glucose, ketones, nitrite content and white blood cells that provide information or parameters on health and disease. Microscopic examination identifies and counts the type of cells, casts, crystals and other components like bacteria and mucous that can be present in urine. Error-free is key.

Key to unlocking the secrets of urine, is error-free urinalysis.

Hi-Precision optimizes systems for routine urinalysis with automated urine analyzer, eliminating subjectivity and minimizing technical error. Most laboratories conduct tests employing only four parameters but Hi-Precision covers 11 parameters encompassing more functions in the body. Hi-Precision does away with manual reading of test strips or dipsticks because data is automatically transferred from the machine to the computer.

Urinalysis unlocks the many secrets of disease. Key is to have specimens screened with automated urine analyzers.
