Girl groups unite
CEBU, Philippines — P-pop pioneers the SexBomb Girls surprised fans at its third reunion concert when spiritual successor BINI joined them onstage.
The show last February 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena was SexBomb's third reunion production sold-out concerts last December.
While performing the song "Halukay Ube," the SexBomb Girls vacated the 360-degree stage, astonishing everyone when BINI emerged to continue performing.
Later the two girl groups joined forces to finish the track, even doing the iconic "appear disappear" with each other.
"Nagulat kayo noh? Ang collaboration na hindi niyo inakala!" said SexBomb's leader Rochelle Pangilinan after the performance.
Rochelle credited her daughter Shiloh for introducing BINI to her, although they had a little banter about which girl group was better.
Each BINI member expressed gratitude to their "older sisters" — as the SexBomb Girls wanted to be referred to — with one member Stacey Sevilleja mentioning they too grew up with SexBomb.
"Maraming salamat for having us kasi, of course, kasama namin ang mga original!" Stacey exclaimed.
The two groups then performed together BINI's hit songs "Salamin, Salamin" and "Pantropiko." BINI then performed their hit song "Salamin, Salamin" and were later joined by the SexBomb Girls in finishing the song.
Rochelle also made it clear that there was no competition between the two girl groups, remarks that were warmly received by the crowd.
"Pare-pareho lang kaming babaeng nangangarap at nagsusumikap na nagmamahal sa musika at sayaw, kaya sana huwag na tayong mag-compare," Rochelle added, calling instead to celebrate OPM and women supporting women.
Also appearing at SexBomb's third reunion concert, where the group announced a world tour was indeed in the works, were Regine Velasquez and Gloc-9. SexBomb still has two more reunion shows dated on February 7 and 8, still at the Mall of Asia Arena.
