CH releases P277 million in aid to 59 barangays
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has released P277-million in financial assistance to 59 out of the city’s 80 barangays.
The ceremonial turnover was led by acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia at the Social Hall of the City Hall legislative building yesterday. Some of the city councilors were also present to assist Garcia in the distribution of checks.
Among those present were Councilors Jerry Guardo, Joy Pesquera, Pastor ‘Jun’ Alcover Jr., Francis Esparis, and Joel Garganera. Also in attendance were City Administrator Kristine Joyce Batucan and assistant City Administrator Atty. Mary Rose Lubino.
Of the 59 recipient barangays, 49 of got P3 million each while 10 received a hefty amount of P13 million each.
Earlier, Liga ng mga Barangay-Cebu City Chapter and ex-officio Councilor Franklyn Ong explained that those who got more are those that have small annual budget so they will have enough funding for their programs and projects.
There were 16 barangays identified to get P13 million each-- Adlaon, Agsungot, Basak San Nicolas, Budlaan, Buot, Cambinocot, Kamagayan, Lusaran, Mabini, Pahina San Nicolas, Pamutan, Paril, Pung-ol Sibugay, Sinsin, Sta. Cruz, and Sudlon I.
But only 10 were given yesterday because the remaining six barangays have yet to submit the needed documentary requirements.
Each barangay submitted proposed programs or projects to be funded, with proposals approved and signed by Mayor Michael Rama before he was preventively suspended.
Garcia explained that not all barangays have received the promised financial assistance due to incomplete requirements. He, however, assured the rest that they will get their share of financial aid once they have complied with the required documents.
“Kung naa moy mga kakulian nga tungod naay kuwang or suspension gamay, please work on it now para ma-release dayon nato ang inyong mga tseke,” Garcia said. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
