CEBU, Philippines — Alliance Française de Cebu and indie music label Melt Records are mounting Fête De La Musique Cebu this month after their successful collaborations for the music festival’s 2022 and 2023 editions.

Fête de la Musique, or World Music Day, is an annual tradition that takes place every June. It started in Paris in 1982 to encourage French citizens to play and enjoy music outside their homes. Since its inception, the celebration has spread to 120 countries, with more than 700 cities participating.

“This year’s celebration in Cebu will be special because we will be celebrating three decades of Fête De La Musique in the Philippines,” Alliance Française de Cebu Director Gauthier Carol said during a press conference at La Parisienne in Lahug, Cebu City.

Also participants in Fête De La Musique Philippines this year are Metro Manila, Davao, El Nido, Siargao, and South Cotabato.

“Fête De La Musique gives a platform for these artists to thrive, do their art, connect with their audience, and build a community,” said Melt Records co-founder Dexter Sy.

Zoya

“Fête has always been ingrained into the local music community here in Cebu, and we make sure to use this platform to help strengthen the state of the Cebu music scene and give local artists a voice.”

Breaking

This year’s Fête De La Musique Cebu will be a two-day event: June 21 at La Parisienne, and June 29 at The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

The lineup for the June 21 show will consist of Cebuano acts IIICCCYYY, SUGARKISS, Liana San Diego, ELEMINO & DŒZA, Hollywood Folk Hogan, ZOYA, and DJ Mistermil.

Coloura

San Diego, who started her career as a singer-songwriter in 2021, is excited to perform at the event after being just an audience member last year.

The-Sundown

“It’s such an honor to be in Fête De La Musique Cebu. It’s only last year that I was a spectator, so it feels surreal to be part of this lineup of performers. My nerves are going haywire, but I am excited overall,” said San Diego, adding that she is looking forward to seeing co-performer IIICCCYYY.

Elemino-Doeza

The June 29 event will be headlined by Cebuano bands Mandaue Nights, The Sundown, Sansette, Kubra Commander, The Qings, and Coloura.

Kubra-Commander

“These acts represent various communities in the Cebu music scene. We made sure that they fit the vibe of the venues and the festival. Hopefully, everyone will enjoy what we put together in the lineup for this year,” Sy said.

Liana-San-Diego

Unique to this year’s Fête De La Musique Cebu is a breakdancing program led by the Cebuano breakdance group Breaking-Cebu. This addition is timely as breakdancing will debut as an Olympic sport at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris this July.

Mandaue-Nights

The segment is sponsored by the French sports retailer Decathlon, which launched its first branch in the Visayas at SM City Cebu last March.

MISTERMIL-Alexander-Lim

“Decathlon has been a favorite company of the French people for years. It’s important for us to be part of this event, to support the Alliance, and to support the artists as well. We are excited to be part of it,” said Decathlon Philippines Store Leader Mathilde Mullet. — (FREEMAN)
