Why ‘Huwag Kang Mangamba’ is our current favorite
Director Yam Laranas says his new movie under Viva Films titled “Death of A Girlfriend” starring Diego Loyzaga and AJ Raval, is inspired by a true story.
“It’s a mystery-love story and those who love this kind of movie will surely enjoy the twists. Everyone will be in for a big surprise,” said the director of hit horror movies “Sigaw” and “Aurora.”
Direk Yam said he likes to play with the minds of the audience that’s why he likes doing mystery and horror. “I want the audience to get involved in the story as it progresses. I find directing this genre truly challenging.”
There are only four characters in “Death of A Girlfriend” – Diego, AJ, Arnold Reyes and an old man. The fifth character is Soliman but the audience will not see him in the film although he’s very much a part of it.
“I love horror movies because I am able to play with emotions of fear, suspense and anxiety. This is a love story between two students (Diego and AJ) but the audience will have to watch intently because of the many turns,” he said.
“The movie has beautiful cinematography which is a trademark of my films as well as crisp editing. What makes if different from my past movies like ‘Sigaw’ and ‘Aurora’ is that it doesn’t have a supernatural element. But it will definitely scare the audience.”

The new Kapamilya serye “Huwag Kang Mangamba” is our new favorite. We never fail to watch it every night after “Probinsyano.”
We find the story arc interesting because it talks about having a strong faith and belief in God despite the uncertain times.
Another plus factor is the good acting of Andrea Brillantes, Francine Diaz, Sylvia Sanchez, Nonie Buencamino, RK Bagatsing, Mercedes Cabral and Eula Valdez, among others.
Fast-paced, there is no dull moment and it is delightful to watch a show that is acted well. All scenes are done well and you can see that the director/s have a firm grip on the material and is able to execute the scenes like an orchestra playing a wonderful symphony.
Special mention to Sylvia in her role of Barang, who has a mental disorder. She is doing a good job and is giving it her own interpretation that is not over the top but just right.
At times, watching Sylvia as Barang makes us think if she is really insane because she has lucid moments where she talks sense even in her halted language. At times, she explodes like a volcano when provoked by an incident. Sylvia gives a good performance every night that the audience can look forward to.

Migo Adecer, Ultimate Male Survivor in Starstruck’s last edition, has bid showbiz goodbye. He has gone back to Australia.
While he has yet to make a mark in local showbiz, Migo decided to return to his homeland.
Did Migo feel that his career is going nowhere? To be fair, in the few times we interviewed him, we find him sensible and intelligent.
If there’s something that he needs to improve on, it’s his acting skills which he could probably develop thru workshops.
In Migo’s short stint in showbiz, he probably has a lot of fond memories to take with him to Australia.
Maybe he felt showbiz is not really meant for him. Maybe he is destined for a different path. Still, we wish Migo success in whatever endeavor he chooses to pursue.
