Epy Quizon, KZ Tandingan shine in ‘The Art of Ligaw’

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

There are many people asking for help for our kababayans in Mindanao who had been affected by the series of earthquakes with intensity not lower than magnitude six. Our countrymen need water, food, canned goods and medicines, as well as clothes, blankets and tents.

There are some private citizens and entities helping them like Angel Locsin and GMA Kapuso Foundation. SIP Purified Water (endorsed by Maine Mendoza) posted on Twitter: “Together with our distributor in Davao, we initiated a relief program to aid the earthquake victims by giving them clean water supplies.”

There are probably some people also helping the earthquake victims but they chose to do it quietly.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also helped by giving his endorsement talent fee to Cotabato while Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto is likewise extending help in cooperation with the Pasig City Council.

But the netizens are also asking: The people affected by the earthquake are from Mindanao but how come the celebrities who are supporters of President Duterte are not doing anything to help. Even the government seems to have ignored the call of those affected by the calamity.

We also noticed that not one of the TV networks have conducted a telethon to secure help and donations for the earthquake victims. No donations came from countries abroad either unlike during the time of the Yolanda typhoon disaster.

Paolo Contis related that for the longest time (around 10 to 12 years), he was a semi-regular cast member of "Bubble Gang," GMA 7’s longest-running and multi-awarded show. He made the revelation on Monday at the presscon of Bubble Gang’s 24th anniversary celebration titled "The ScAvengers."

It was only after Ogie Alcasid left the show that he became a regular cast member.

“There was already a budget and a lot of the cast members became regular. Kuya Ogie’s talent fee was that big kaya naging regular kami. Kaya thank you, Kuya Ogie. Huwag ka nang babalik,” Paolo joked.

But the actor was not joking when he said that taping for the two-part telemovie "The Scavengers" took ten days. “Ang hirap ng taping kasi may mga action scenes and special effects,” said Paolo.

This was confirmed by Michael V who added they had two directors to make the anniversary presentation bigger and better. Aside from Bert de Leon (who’s the resident director of "Bubble Gang"), director Rico Gutierrez also came on board to handle the fight scenes and special effects.

“Since this is his expertise, he made special the sounds of the crashing metals during the fight scenes. It sounds like Dolby,” said Michael V. The two-part episode will be seen on November 15 and 22 on GMA Telebabad after "One of the Baes." #

“The Art of Ligaw” is the debut film of Jourdan Sebastian and is the first project as well of Core Minds Production. It is also the first time for Epy Quizon to play the lead role and singer KZ Tandingan’s first foray into acting.

The script is well-written and the direction is likewise good although we believe the film can stand some editing to make the movie less boring.

Epy shines in his role. Watching him makes you remember his dad Dolphy. He knows exactly how to portray his role as a 40-something bachelor who falls in love for the first time.

KZ is also a revelation in her first acting stint. She’s a natural. She also gets to sing many songs in the film that are potential hits like "Quicksand" and "Walang Hiyang Pag-ibig." She also does a duet with JK Labajo of his big hit "Buwan."

“The Art of Ligaw” opens in theaters on November 13.

Ronnie personally invited Sarah to be his guest after the Viva bosses agreed to his idea that Sarah join him in the show. Sarah readily said yes without even looking at her schedule so Ronnie was really overwhelmed with her gesture.

Love X Romance is a celebration of love through music and also a celebration of Ronnie’s achievement in showbiz for the past year. He is marking 12 years in the music scene and his new album is his latest offering to his fans and followers.
