CEBU, Philippines — To align with Cebu’s Sinulog week and make the pageant a “total learning experience” for its 54 candidates, the Binibining Sugbu Charity Foundation, Inc., which organizes the Binibining Cebu beauty tilt, decided to move the coronation night of its third edition from November to January.

From the initially announced November 15 finals, Bb. Cebu said in a statement sent to The FREEMAN that they will crown Steffi Aberasturi’s successor on January 13, 2020, a Monday, still at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The Swimwear and Long Gown Competition was also rescheduled to November 13, a Wednesday, at the Mandani Bay Event Tent.

“The directors of the Bb Sugbu Charity Foundation, Inc. have agreed to move the pageant to Sinulog week to align with Cebu’s cultural calendar,” the Bb. Cebu statement said.

“The foundation also wants to ensure that the pageant becomes a total learning experience for the girls. More charitable activities, social immersions and training workshops will be held this year including a few to be conducted by the members of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s team.”

Bb. Cebu’s third year is produced by an “all-star cast” led by ABS-CBN producer and director Ahwel Paz, choreographer Val Sandiego, master couturier Cary Santiago and world renowned designer Kenneth Cobonpue – all promising a grander and bolder pageant.

If Bb. Cebu will follow the same schedule for their 2020 staging, Cebu will be seeing two major pageant coronations in the same month, as the Cebu City government also recently confirmed the return of the Miss Cebu pageant in 2021. Miss Cebu, which holds its coronation in January, has been absent for the past three years after it was scrapped by then mayor Tomas Osmeña. (FREEMAN)
