Debra Messing: ‘I will forever be Grace Adler’
CEBU, Philippines - Debra Messing stopped by the Today show on September 17, where she discussed her new TV show, “The Mysteries of Laura,” and her beloved series, “Will & Grace.”
“It’s feast or famine,” Messing, 46, said of returning to the small screen. “You’re either a full-time mom — which I love being — or you’re working 12 hours a day, every day. There’s no middle ground.”
Still, the actress said she’s enjoying her latest television-acting gig. “For me it’s always about the script and finding the right script is the thing that is the most challenging.”
Lauer then asked Messing about the comparisons that are drawn between her new character and her most-iconic role on “Will & Grace,” which aired for eight seasons on NBC from 1998 to 2006.
“I will forever be Grace Adler,” Messing said of her hilarious character. “I am thrilled and proud that that is the case.”
“For us to have had that kind of impact, and for that character to be so beloved, it’s a wonderful thing,” she added of her bond with co-star Eric McCormack, who played her gay BFF Will Truman on the show. “Hopefully, fans of Grace will watch this and they’ll enjoy it as well.”
Lauer noted some of the similarities between her new character and Adler. “They both eat inappropriately” and “both sing as if nobody’s watching.” (FREEMAN)
