CIDFF free film screenings begin today

CEBU, Philippines - Film lovers are invited to watch over 24 films in its Asian premier showing in the third Cebu International Documentary Film Festival (CIDFF 2014) from August 25-30 in different venues.

Films by the Silent Voices Productions will be shown on August 25 at the Aegean Room, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino along Salinas Drive, Lahug: 10 a.m., “My Friend Charlie Whight” by Mark Celestino (Philippines); 10:13 a.m., “Filipina” by Darwin Buschman (Philippines); 10:28 a.m., “Pagtuo” by Janice Villarosa (Philippines); 10:34 a.m., “Charlie Clown” by Malaya Pasion (Philippines); 10:47 a.m., “Deep Water” by Janice Villarosa and Phuong Ngoc Vu (Philippines). Other films on the same day include Click Media’s “Racing with Legends” by Steven Flor (Philippines) at 1 pm; Divino Concepto’s “Hollywood” by Ramon Tort (Spain) at 1:54 p.m.; and “BlueSky View/Laybl Productions Gifted” by Russel Rossi (Canada).

Also shown at the Aegean Room on August 26 are films by Snakehawk Productions: 9 a.m., “Sea Gypsies” and 9:26 a.m., “Man on the Cross” by Matthew Everett (Phils/UK); 10:26 a.m., “Forgotten Soldiers” by Donald Plata (Phils/USA); and 2 p.m. Blue Crayon Productions Worker’s “Church” by Malou-Guanzon Apalisok (Phils). Opening Night is also on August 26 at 5 p.m. at the Cinema 1, Ayala Center Cebu featuring “Shunned” directed by Janice Villarosa.

From August 27-30, the Documentary Film Caravan will showcase more films from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. including Films in Competition at the Saint Theresa’s College-Cebu Little Theatre on August 27, University of San Carlos College of Architecture and Fine Arts Theatre on August 27 and 28 and at the University of the Philippines Union Building on August 29, as well as the Rotary Film Challenge Winners and Out of Competition Films on August 30 at the Marcelo Fernan Press Center; and Closing Night on August 30 at 5 p.m. at the Marcelo Fernan Press Center featuring “Mediastan” directed by Johannes Wahlstrom (Sweden).

Out of Competition films include “Errol Morris: A Lightning Sketch” by Charles Musser (United States), “Soldier/Citizen” by Silvina Landsmann (Israel), “Espui” by Anna Soldevilla (Spain) and other Films with Philippine focus include “Typhoon Haiyan” by Silke De Vos  (Philippines/Germany) and Sinulog Documentaries.

CIDFF Board Secretary Marie Ernestine Denise Fajatin-Pegarido said, “We encourage everyone to register early so they can have secured seating arrangements. This is a very rare opportunity to view these quality films. The films in this year’s competition have not been screened yet anywhere in Asia.”
