Earthday Jam goes to Cebu

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Our Earth had been taking a lot of our abuse – from throwing a lot of our garbage to the land, sea and air, to harvesting more and more resources just to feed our insatiable greed – and the effects are devastating. We are getting fewer areas where we can have fresh, breathable air; sea levels are getting warmer which yields stronger and more powerful storms, and yet it seems that people are not learning from what the earth is trying to tell us.

Earthday Jam Foundation, a non-profit organization which imbeds awareness to the public of the importance of environmental preservation through music, communication and arts, has produced various environmental projects since the year 2000. Every year since then, artist couple Lou Bonnevie and Toto Gentica have extended their advocacy from a few people who attended the very first Earthday Jam in an enclosed bar, to crowds who rocked open-space venues around the metro.

Before the year ends, Earthday Jam goes outside Metro Manila to bring their advocacy of saving Mother Earth to more Filipinos. The foundation will kick it off with a 2013 Clean Air Concert at Trinoma on Nov. 21, in line with the celebration of the Clean Air Month.

After that, Earthday Jam Foundation will roll it out at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu on Nov. 23. Dumaguete City will also join the jam at Robinsons Place Dumaguete’s Main Atrium on Nov. 24 and on Nov. 30, Marquee Mall’s Activity Center in Pampanga City will be also filled with music and other activities – all for saving Mother Earth.

Earthday Jam On Tour will feature live performances by Rivermaya, the Bloomfields, Lou Bonnevie, Nina, Paolo Santos, Noel Cabangon, and each of the provinces’ very own local talent, hosted by Karel Marquez and Midi G. It will also feature Cebu’s top reggae band BambuSpliff, alternative group Dance With Me Kris, Ethnic Drumbeaters Kliftra and Dumaguete’s Pop band Skillage.

“With this tour, we want to expose local artists from these provinces,” Earthday Jam Foundation President Lou Bonnevie said. “And with the latest disasters, we want to uplift our countrymen’s heavy hearts through earth songs.”

Bio-docu ‘Tunay na Buhay’ airs daily

Viewers get a daily dose of real life’s lessons and triumphs as GMA’s “Tunay Na Buhay,” a 30-minute biographical documentary, airs weekdays beginning today. It used to air Saturday nights, but now moves to its new, daily timeslot after “Kusina Master.”

Since it premiered two years ago, “Tunay na Buhay” has featured stories of unique and interesting tales of hope, courage, and determination. The real-life stories shared by celebrities tackle themes and life lessons meant to inspire and celebrate the foibles and triumphs of the human spirit.

Hosted by broadcast journalist Rhea Santos, the show probes into the most personal and private lives of the subjects— visiting their homes, work places and old haunts, meeting their family members and friends, going back to their hometowns and elementary schools— to get a glimpse of their childhood and struggling years.

Through Rhea’s sincere, light, probing yet heartfelt informal interviews, she is able to draw out the innermost thoughts and emotions of her subjects as they share their stories with the audience, look back at their glory days, contemplate on the life lessons they have learned, and finally come to terms with some of the biggest intrigues and controversies that they have been associated with in the past.

“Tunay na Buhay” believes that everyone has a story to tell. And in every story: “bawat karanasan, may mga aral na tumatatak sa ating mga puso at isipan.”

For its pilot week, “Tunay na Buhay” takes a peek at the colorful lives of the Queen of Philippine Rock and Roll Elizabeth Ramsey, veteran character actor John Regala, sexy actress-turned-politician Cristina ‘Kring-Kring’ Gonzales-Romualdez, 80s sexy star Cherrie Madrigal, and Queen of Showbiz Intrigues impersonator and stand-up comedian Inday Garutay.
