Marian Rivera sizzles as calendar girl

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

A sexier and more daring Marian Rivera graces the 2014 calendar of Ginebra San Miguel. This is the second time that Marian was chosen Calendar Girl of the famed drink. The first time was in 2009.

“I am very grateful to be given a second chance to be part of the Ginebra family which is celebrating its 180th anniversary next year,” said Marian at the Ginebra presscon on Wednesday. In her 2009 calendar, Marian was a bit conservative. She wore mostly shorts. This time, she agreed to go sexier by wearing a two-piece bikini.

The Kapuso primetime queen said she agreed to be more sexy and daring; after all, she was declared FHM’s Sexiest Woman of 2013 and also on the quality of projects that she had been doing.

She added that she is more confident of herself that’s why she agreed to do a sexy pictorial. “I am happy with the result of the calendar shoot and what was good about Ginebra is that before they gave the approval for the photos, they consulted me if I approve of the pictures. And we agreed that the photos were all good,” said Marian.

Among the three sexy poses that she had, Marian liked best her photo where she wore a yellow two-piece bathing suit since she looked sweet and relaxed. For her calendar pictorial, she went on a diet and exercised regularly. She really made sure she is in her best shape ever. She was into Zumba, Muay Thai and followed a diet of no meat, just vegetables and fruits before the photo shoot.

The actress sizzles in the layouts that were shot on location in Batangas, Boracay, and Palawan by photographer Marc Nicdao with stylist Liz Uy.

“I feel so honored and blessed to pose for Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar for the second time,” says Marian. “This time, I am more confident in posing for the brand. I am also very proud because all of the layouts were tastefully done.”

“Marian is a big star and we wanted to celebrate our 180th anniversary in a big way and with a bang. She exudes the sensuality and confidence of the ideal Ginebra calendar girl and we are so happy to have her onboard as our calendar girl for the second time,” says GSMI Vice President and Marketing Manager Nelson Elises.

RK Bagatsing joined “That’s Entertainment,” the famed program for teenagers put up by Master Showman German Moreno. But RK was not yet too keen then on having a career in showbiz. He got interested in sports and soon found himself playing varsity basketball. Afterwards, he decided to take his studies seriously and quit showbiz for good.

He was taking up Nursing but RK was unable to finish it after his Kuya Raymond Bagatsing stopped supporting his studies, which led to a misunderstanding so RK decided to take on a job to earn his own money. “But even if I was earning good money, there was something lacking. I was earning good money and was able to help my family but then, at the back of mind, there was this thought that I was probably not for the job. Maybe I was destined for something else,” said RK.

That time he was up for promotion in the company where he was connected. He talked to his bosses about his desire to leave the company. After that, RK did VTR for commercials. At the same time, he took to the gym and worked his body out. He was out of shape but he knew that if he decides to enter showbiz, he has to be fit.

After countless VTRs, he got a chance to do a cough syrup commercial.  This was followed by other commercials although he was not the lead. It was fine for RK, who just wanted to get a break. Then he got a bit role in the movie “Ang Supremo” directed by Richard Somes. But he was so happy that he finally got a movie break.

RK says the indie film “The Slumber Party” was memorable for him. He didn’t think he was trying out for a gay role. All the while he thought the lead characters in the movies were women to be played by men. “This is cool, men playing women,” RK told himself. Imagine his surprise when he found out he was auditioning for a gay role. With some reluctance, he did the audition and forgot about it, thinking he won’t get a part. To his surprise, he got one of the leads.

For his performance in the movie, RK scored a Breakthrough Performance nomination from the 10th Golden Screen Awards. Even if he didn’t win, the nomination boosted his confidence and was inspired to continue his acting career. His other film credits are “The Guerilla Is Also A Poet” which was shown at Cine Filipino and “Sitio,” a Mes De Guzman film which is an entry at the currently ongoing Cinema One Originals Film Festival.

“The Slumber Party” was an entry at the Cinema One Originals last year and it will have a theatrical release on Nov. 27.
