A nightmare for moviegoers

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis - The Philippine Star

Imagine yourself inside a movie theater, enjoying an action thriller.

Suddenly someone bursts in from an exit door, throws a smoke canister then starts shooting anyone he sees with an automatic rifle.

That was what happened in a cinema in Aurora, Colorado, last week. The new Bartman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, was running for about 15 minutes when a gunman opened fire on the moviegoers. Twelve people were killed and scores were wounded. It was the worst mass shooting in the US in more than 60 years, leaving the country in shock.

The incident forced the cancellation of the showing of the movie in several US theaters because authorities feared it could trigger a copycat attack.

Survivors described scenes of confusion and mayhem inside the theater. Many thought at first it was a publicity stunt related to the movie.

Investigators said the gunman was armed with an assault rifle and several other guns. He also wore a gas mask and a bulletproof vest.

I shudder to think that a similar incident could happen here.

"Mga kapitbahay!!! Pulis!" will soon be a shout heard ‘round the world.

A teaser of The Bourne Legacy shown on local TV last week featured a Pinay extra screaming out those words during a chase scene involving Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz in the narrow alleys of a shantytown neighbourhood in Manila.

Jeremy and Rachel spent several days in Metro Manila last January filming sequences for The Bourne Legacy, the fourth and latest installment in the Bourne spy thriller franchise.

The movie is due for world release next month.

Metro Manila officials outdid themselves in accommodating the film’s cast and crew. They blocked off traffic on EDSA and Magsaysay Avenue so the chase scenes could be filmed without a hitch. They wanted to convince big international movie outfits that location shootings are more fun in the Philippines.

24/G, Sarah Geronimo’s 24th birthday concert at the Araneta Coliseum last July 7 was reprised last night at the same venue.

Many who saw 24/G agree that it was Sarah’s best show yet. Her costumes, created by Dubai-based Filipino designer Furne One were stunning and sexy.

Sarah’s mom is said to have disapproved of the costumes because they were too revealing, but Sarah herself decided she was going to wear them. After all, they cost a princely P6 million.

The fans went wild with delight as Gerald Anderson arrived. For them Gerald’s appearance was an affirmation that he and Sarah are now more than just friends.

KC Concepcion confessed that she had a preference for bad boys before. But that’s changed.

“I’m beginning to appreciate good guys. I found out that being wholesome doesn’t’ mean boring or passive,” KC said in an interview on Kris TV last week.

So who were the bad boys in her life? KC isn’t saying.

Now that she’s gotten over Piolo Pascual, she is definitely ready to be in love again. “I’m excited to fall in love again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.”

She hinted that there are a couple of guys who are definitely interested in her. One is a foreigner, “but he loves the Filipino culture. He has never been here.”

“’The other is half-Filipino, but he’s more of a friend now. He resided abroad for a while.”

Hmm. Could KC be describing Sam Milby?

But she quickly added that right now she doesn’t want to be involved with somebody in showbiz.

She wants a beach wedding and is cool with being just a plain housewife. She also wants to adopt a baby girl.

I’m talking about BB Gandanghari, who revealed her aspirations in life last week.

“I’ve been in showbiz for so long, so I’ll be happy just staying the house,” BB shared with reporters.
