A closer look at Vicky Morales

In this exclusive tell-all interview with The FREEMAN Entertainment (TFE) Vicky Morales answers questions on faith, motherhood, and career:

TFE: Who is Vicky Morales as a wife and a mother?

Vicky: As a wife, I think I’m an easy wife, parang ayaw kong maging nagger. I just want to serve my husband and I know he also needs his space. I’m there if he needs me but I think it also helps that I’m a very busy person and I love my work. Nakakatulong ‘yun actually kasi siguro kung hindi ko nae-enjoy yung work ko, siguro masungit ako, or kung wala naman ako masyadong pinagkakaabalahan, siguro nakukulit ko siya. I think it also helps that we are both busy. And I think we’ve gotten even closer because of the kids. Kung dati, may kanya-kanya kaming life, ngayon we travel together and we talk about the kids at sila ang parating topic namin. As a wife, I’d like to think na I’m a wife who supports my husband who gives him the space that he needs because kailangan nila ‘yun the same way we need that. And as a mom naman, in-love na in-love ako sa mga anak ko. I’m very hands-on. I don’t miss yung mga doctor’s appointment nila. Kahit na very busy ako, I always make time for them. Sa ngayon siyempre, because of the impeachment, medyo nababawasan yung time ko spent with them. So medyo bumabawi ako like I try not to schedule my work during weekends para I can take them out. For me, dapat i-cherish ng mothers yung time na kailangan pa sila ng mga anak nila. Because darating yung time na paglaki nila, friends na nila ang lalapitan nila. So kailangan, talagang sulitin mo, namnamin mo ng husto yung time na ‘yun na they adore you and that they want to be close to you. And I also like to read to them once in a while, ‘yun ang bonding moments namin.

TFE: What comes to mind instantly when you hear the word “faith”?

Vicky: “Faith” yung tanging kinakapitan ng tao ‘pag medyo nawawala sila sa landas. Faith is very important. There are times siyempre na nada-down ka at hindi naman parating happy ka. Maybe you show a happy disposition outside, pero inside, iba naman yung nararamdaman mo. Feeling mo you cannot impose your problems to other people. But during times like that, faith ang sandigan mo. Faith is very important and everyone should have it.

TFE: Who are your media icons and why? How do you deal with comparison?

Vicky: Hindi ko talaga maco-consider as media icons kasi when you say “icon,” it is someone na nasa pedestal. Here in GMA, I really admire and I have so much respect with the people that I work with like sila Mike Enriquez, Jessica Soho, Mel Tiangco, Arnold Clavio, Mareng Winnie, etc. Magagaling sila and I am very happy to be working with all of them. We really help each other even though iba-iba ang assignments namin, there’s this synergy that we have. Ang ganda rin kasi kapag nakikita at nagugustuhan ng mga tao yung ginawa mo. There’s no comparison because iba-iba yung niche namin at we all have our different programs. Si Mike may Imbestigador so yung personality niya medyo malakas ang dating, si Arnold naman Rescue, akin naman yung Wish Ko Lang and Good News, si Tita Mel naman has also her own and she handles the Kapuso Foundation. I think we compliment each other at hindi kami nag-o-overlap. Nag-o-overlap lang kami in the realm of public service, which is really what GMA News is all about. That is something that we take seriously.

TFE: For you, why is it important to deliver “Good News” to the people?

But the people behind the show told me that we should try to give it a shot dahil wala pang ganitong concept. My worry then was baka hindi mag-click but they convinced me na i-try. So when we started, medyo mababa, pero tweak kami ng tweak, ayan top 5 na kami. I’m really grateful to the staff that they convinced me to pursue this show and also to the audience that they gave a show like this a chance. This show is our response to the people’s clamor for pleasant news in time like this na puro negative ang nababalitaan ng mga tao. So I think we’re doing well as a program and I’m more proud actually of the audience that they proved me wrong dahil akala ko they won’t be ready to accept something like this. Naa-appreciate ko na dahil sa public, a show like this pala.
