Edgar Allan Guzman says 'sorry'

Kapatid artist Edgar Allan Guzman was one of the big winners in the 9th Golden Screen Awards held last week at the Teatrino.

He won Best Performance by An Actor in a Leading Role – Musical or Comedy for the Cinemalaya entry “Ligo na U, Lapit na Me” for which he also won the best actor plum at the Cinemalaya last July.

In his acceptance speech, Edgar said sorry to the members of the press and to his manager, Noel Ferrer because of their misunderstanding last year. But we learned that if not for the Golden Screen Awards, he and Noel would not have met and talked because he had been remiss of his duties to his network. And he hasn’t made good his promise of going back home to his family. Noel hasn’t talked to Edgar for more than a month because of his shortcomings until they met during the awards where Edgar also serenaded his “nanay” Superstar Nora Aunor who was recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

There is this persistent rumor (which we tend to believe is true although Edgar won’t give a categorical answer whenever he is asked) that he and his girlfriend Johlan Veluz of the Sexbomb are now living together. Whenever he is asked about him going back to his family, he only says, “Inaayos ko po kung ano ang dapat na ayusin.”

But according to Noel, his ward has indeed started bringing back his things to their house. “And he understands that it would be for his own good and for everyone if he returns to his family. He said he would do that before the weekend is over. That was what he told me when we met at the awards night. I hope he makes good his promise. “Congratulations pa rin sa kanya. He is really a good actor and he’s destined to do better basta may focus lang at direction.”

We tried to get Edgar’s side of the issue on him apologizing to his manager and to the members of the press as well through a text message. But we did not get an answer. But in his speech, he said he will change his ways, that he would be a better person.

He even told his manager that the first thing he’d do the next day (Sunday) is that he would visit the grave of his dad (to whom he dedicated his award) and say sorry to him as well. We sure hope he did that.

German “Kuya Germs” Moreno says he doesn’t interfere with the love life of his alaga Jhake Vargas. He is not even aware that Jhake and fellow Kapuso star Lexi Fernandez (the daughter of Maritoni Fernandez) were reportedly an item as alleged by the girl’s mom.

We had a chance to talk with Kuya Germs at the presscon of primetime afternoon shows of GMA last Tuesday. The star builder reiterated he doesn’t meddle with his ward’s personal affairs. The most he would do is give advice.

Besides, Kuya Germs added, he is aware that Maritoni is not yet allowing Lexi to entertain suitors because she’s only 16. He became aware of it when he and Maritoni met at the office of GMA Films executive Joey Abacan last year. Also present at that time was former GMA Artist Center boss Ida Henares.

“Ano naman ang isasagot ko? Hindi naman ako kumibo. Unang-una, hindi naman nanliligaw. Alangan naman sabihin ko na sino ba ang nanliligaw kay Jhake?” said Kuya Germs.

So it means Jhake did not court Lexi? “Well, there was a time pinahintulutan niya dumalaw si Jhake sa bahay nila, na nagulat ako. Bakit pinayagan eh di ba sabi niya 16 years old lang ang anak niya? Hindi ko pinakikialaman ang lovelife ni Jhake. Ang iniiwasan ko, dahil underage sila, ay ang magkaroon ng problema. Nagulat lang ako nang kinonpronta ako ni Maritoni sa office ni Joey Abacan. Kung ayaw niya paligawan ang anak niya, bakit siya pumayag na dalawin ni Jhake si Lexi sa bahay nila?”

Kuya Germs made it clear he doesn’t want to meddle with his alaga’s personal concerns. Whether Jhake and Lexi became on or recently broke up or were still on, is not his concern because he doesn’t want to be accused on encroaching on their private lives.

“Nang mag-umpisa ang mga batang ito, sinabi ko sa kanila na huwag silang magpaapekto sa ligawan kasi pag nagkaproblema, pati ang kanilang career maapektuhan kasi hindi magiging natural pag may samaan ng loob di ba? At saka hindi ko talaga masasabi kung talagang mag-on.”
