Edu gets zapped

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

CEBU, Philippines - Edu Manzano admitted he got zapped (nakuryente) after tweeting the supposed sighting of President Aquino and Grace Lee while the two were on a date in Greenhills last week.

“PNoy and Grace Lee spotted at Promenade Greenhills today,” Edu tweeted on Thursday, adding, with a dash of sarcasm: “In the middle of the day. To be fair, it IS a nice day for a leisurely stroll.”

Less than an hour later, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda tweeted a reply: “Your tweet is tsismis. The President is presiding over a NEDA meeting. It started at 10, the meeting is still ongoing.”

Later in the day, Edu had to recant. "PNoy was NOT in Promenade with Grace Lee today. It was unconfirmed gossip, and I was overeager. I deserve all the backlash. Lesson learned. Sorry for the confusion, everyone. In local parlance, 'nakuryente' ako, and I was foolish to tweet unconfirmed chismis."

The President did not let the incident go without commenting on it. In a speech in Cavite on the same day, he took a dig at idle people who concoct stories. “Let’s just laugh it off. It’s part of our society,” PNoy said.

Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez is emerging as a favourite to win this season’s American Idol.

Last week, Jessica moved into the Final 9 of the show after her rendition of Billy Joel’s Everybody Has A Dream earned a standing ovation from the judges. “When God was giving out vocal chords, you were so at the front of the line. I’ve got nothing to say except for thank you for letting me hear you sing, baby,” Steven Tyler exclaimed. Jennifer Lopez said, Jessica’s performance “was a defining moment for you for me, a defining song because I really feel like that’s you. That’s you. You have this dream and you’re here and you’re seizing the moment and you’re living it in every second and we all get to feel that and that’s a beautiful thing.”

From Randy Jackson: “Every time you step up every week, you have to have a moment. You have a moment every time you step on that stage and I love it. You are flawless, it was perfect.”

Jessica was Newsday.com No. 1 pick, while dialidol.com has Sanchez in second place behind Joshua Ledet.

Disney’s big-budget film, John Carter, is on its way to being one of the biggest flops in movie history.

Disney expects the film to lose $200 million after it grossed a measly $30.2 million in the US during its first weekend of release.

Curiously, John Carter was the top grosser among the films shown in Manila between March 7 and 11, taking in $595,093 (around P25.5 million).

John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, who got into a flap after mistaking the Philippines for Indonesia while recounting an unfortunate encounter with customs authorities.
