CEBU, Philippines - British actor Andrew Garfield may not be as heavily built as his predecessor, but he certainly looks more like the teenage hero does in the comic books.
In these new images the 28-year-old star shows off his new toned physique as fans get a proper look at the all new Spider-Man costume.
Garfield, who completed filming The Amazing Spider-Man last year, looks the true embodiment of Peter Parker with his youthful appearance and slim frame.
The Social Network star has not opted for a muscle enhancing suit, and has instead decided to go au naturel with the new costume.
The famous Spider-Man outfit has been enhanced with dark shades of blue and red and it is covered in a shiny black mesh material. The red and blue suit clings to the actor’s body revealing his V-shape body, defined pectorals, and rounded shoulders.
His on-screen persona of Peter Parker is supposed to be a nerdy high school teenager, so the fact that the star has not buffed up as much as Tobey Maguire once did should please fans.
Web shooters are also new additions to the suit and they appear on Spidey’s wrists, suggesting that Peter Parker will produce spiders webbing with the help of science.
Garfield has decided to do all his own stunts in the film so the action sequences will be much more realistic and contain less CGI, although it has been shot partly in 3D.
The film follows Parker at school, where he is seen as a geek that is picked on by the jocks and at home he is constantly haunted by the memory of parents and the void they have left in his life.
His aunt and uncle, played by heavyweights Martin Sheen and Sally Field, have taken care of him since he was orphaned but he still wants to know exactly what happened to his mother and father.
As if that wasn’t enough he is also faced with being classed as a ‘vigilante’ by the police, who are trying to catch the Spider-Man by any means possible.
By pure coincidence his girlfriend is also the daughter of the Chief of Police, George Stacy, played by Denis Leary.
While George appears to be angry at everything, especially the masked hero, Peter believes that Spider-man is providing a service to the city that the boys in blue are incapable of doing. (FREEMAN)
