UUU chamber from Japan and Cebu symphony orchestra live at the Northwing

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Symphony Orchestra together with the UUU Chamber Orchestra based in Tokyo, Japan will hold a free concert at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu today.

The concert aims to promote and educate the children of Cebu about classical music. The performance is composed of the Wind Concert by UUU Chamber, String Ensemble by Cebu Symphony Orchestra, and a joint performance by UUU and CSO.

UUU, which stands for its slogan MUSIC “U”NITES THE “W”ORLD, has been established by three executive staffs on October 2011.There are 15 instrumentalists which are students from colleges or universities all over Japan.

Cebu used to have big orchestras like the Peace Philharmonic Philippines (PPP) and the Cebu Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO). But they disbanded because of unstable support and the need of the members to transfer out of Cebu for studies in their personal choice of instrument. Yet, some institutions offered music lessons to those who were interested.

It took Rey Abellana, a former member of the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra; Francis Balo, a member of the same orchestra; Marc Hamlet Mercado from PPP; Prof. Roberto del Rosario, a renowned conductor and arranger; and Renato Kintanar to build an 87-member orchestra. CSO’s goal is to develop local talents in music and bring back the appreciation for classical music.

Catch the UUU Chamber Orchestra and the Cebu Symphony Orchestra today, 6pm at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu. (FREEMAN)
