Free "EMIR" film showing as tribute to OFWs today
CEBU, Philippines - In support of our efforts to promote the invaluable contribution of our OFWs and in Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos & International Migrants Day, SM Supermalls will be showing the film EMIR that pays tribute to overseas Filipino workers. EMIR, an original Filipino musical film directed by an award-wining Director, Dir. Chito Roño, won a Youssef Chahine Award for Best Artistic Contribution at the Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt.
The Film seeks to assist all individuals in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, as well as generate their involvement in migration concerns and issues. It will also advocate for a stronger academic and media focus on migration issues at the same time promote Filipino culture and heritage in places with large concentration of overseas Filipinos.
EMIR tells the story of a nanny, Amelia, a Filipina from Ilocos who decides to work abroad to help her family. She takes care of the Sheik’s wife who is about to give birth, and later acts as the “yaya” (nanny) to the newly born, Ahmed – the Sheik’s eldest son. Amelia sees Ahmed growing up, and in the process, introduces him to the culture, values and language of the Philippines.
She becomes a mother to the young prince and ultimately sacrifices everything to protect him. The story of EMIR is an inspirational one, revealing the triumphant and resilient side of being an OFW.
Watch and be inspired by the film “EMIR” today, December 13, 2011 starting at 9am to 12nn in SM Cinema 5 of SM City Cebu. Admission is free.
